During the closing of a year, we celebrate endings and beginnings. When we experience the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth is furthest away from the light, and warmth, of the sun. During this time of year, the darkness seems to be unavoidable.
Each of us has a unique opportunity to use the darkness this time of year as a metaphor, choosing to see the darkness as symbolic of both physical and spiritual “endings”,whereas the spiritual meaning of the light is one of new beginnings. The benefits of either one does not have to be the downfall of the other; both dark and light allow you to grow, just in different ways.
"There's a light of love within you... Embracing it with a passion, nurturing it with care . . .you become a giver of light." — Rumi
