We all know that sometimes being an adult can feel like too much. We have to work out, eat well, hang out with our friends, spend time with the kids, perform well at work, be a great partner… the list goes on. This is often called “adulting,” and I want to talk about what adulting is and what often gets in the way of it.
Adulting means you’re being the adult in your own life. You take care of yourself; you’re your own best friend; you’re the leader of your life.
In my twenties and thirties, I thought being an adult meant I should be constantly busy and exhausted. I was super reliable for everyone in my life except myself.
And when I did things right and successfully showed up as an adult, I still judged myself harshly. Instead of celebrating my little victories, I told myself that’s what adults were supposed to do, and instead focused on all the things I hadn’t done right.
But my definition of adulting has changed, and now I celebrate those times when I successfully show up. So I wanted to spend this episode talking about what adulting means for me – working out regularly, planning healthy meals ahead of time, and things like that – and what it might look like for you.
You don’t have to be perfect to be an adult. Realizing that you will mess up + move on is part of adulting.
Tune in to this week’s episode as I talk about all things adulting and share my tips about what it means to take care of yourself + lead your life in the direction you want to go.
