We are becoming an anxious people, in desperate need of assurance and strength. God chose Gideon for a special purpose, but that didn't keep Gideon from experiencing all kinds of anxiety. Like many of us, he always felt like he wasn't enough and that his circumstances were too much. Instead of turning inward, this story invites us to turn upward, to discover that there is nothing to fear when God is with us.
