Professor Miguel Centeno teaches at Princeton University on the Paradoxes of War, which I found on Coursera. I did a bit of research and found a book he authored called, "War & Society". I found it to be a well thought out, well constructed book from a perspective I myself do not have; which was refreshing. 

Whether you're a college student, military officer, or even a parent of a military member this will be worth a listen.
