IMBTP Episode 47 -- The Defender

Listen Later

On this month's episode, we're taking a look back at Dolph's directorial debut, 2005's The Defender!  In this claustrophobic political thriller, Lundgren plays Lance Rockford, a tough secret service operative who heads to Romania to provide protection for the head of National Security, where she's participating in a highly confidential meeting.  Yet when an army of mysterious assassins sabotage the meeting, Rockford discovers that he's up against something much bigger than he could have imagined, as he and his team fight to survive the night and protect the future of America!  Joining me to discuss Dolph's comeback and "back to basics" outing is my buddy and friend of the show, Chris Prentice!  How does the film and production make use of its confined empty hotel setting?  In what ways does Dolph prove how invested he is with this one, especially in terms of his directing flourishes?  How does this film stand out in the direct-to-video action genre and manage to look like a real movie?  And...  how does Jerry Springer do starring as... the President of the United States?!  The late 90's and early 2000's were a bit of a rough go for Dolph, but with this film , things were finally back on track!  Join us as we discuss The Defender!
Major thanks to Chris Prentice for once again joining me!  Feel free to rate and review the show on iTunes, Stitcher, or wherever else you go to subscribe!
