IMF's Shock Therapy for Kenya: From Bitter Memories to a Battered Future

In February 2021, IMF advanced a loan worth $2.4 billion to Kenya. This loan was given with common neoliberal conditionalities such as increase in taxes, spending cuts and reorganization of state-owned enterprises. I outline a brief history of IMF's neoliberal policies, first known as structural adjustment policies, and second rebranded to poverty reduction strategy papers.
