In this episode of Immunology in Aberdeen brought to you by the Aberdeen Immunology Group, we are very excited to present to you our latest episode, where we sat down with Dr Wael Houssen who is a reader at the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen. He has received a BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences and PhD in chemistry. His research interest is to study how bioactive natural products e.g. the pain killer morphine or the antibiotic penicillin are produced in the living organisms. Dr Houssen’s research is focussed on engineering and recruitment of the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis to make similar compounds with enhanced bioactivity and less toxicity.
