Hey everybody, welcome back to another great episode of the Impact Outdoors Podcast coming to you from the 2024 Hunt Fish Podcast Summit at the Warren Ranch. I am excited to have my good friend Mr. Josh Stratton from the Mule Deer Foundation on the show today. Josh is the Senior Director of Marketing and Communications for MDF along with being an avid outdoorsman and conservationist. We had a great conversation about some of the projects and initiatives going on with MDF across the country as well as talking about our love for our home state of Oklahoma and how much it has to offer in the hunting and fishing arena. With it's rise in popularity in the hunting world, there comes the need for more education and information about its resources and the Mule Deer Foundation is doing just that with some exciting new projects and collaborations about mule deer in Oklahoma. There may be a few rabbit holes we go down in this one too with quite a few laughs so be sure to stay tuned for a fun and engaging conversation and be sure to follow Josh and MDF on social media and get involved with them through one of your local chapters!

After traveling to Africa with her husband on a hunting safari, Sue Tidwell discovered a story of how the people of Africa rely on hunting not only as a means for conservation, but to provide for their families and to deter poaching. Sue made a promise to help convey the message of why hunting and conservation is so important over there and shares that message in her book, "Cries of the Savanna". Be sure to check out this episode and grab a copy of Sue's book in print or listen to the audio version.

I recently met Herman Brune at the 2024 DSC show in Dallas after hearing stories about him from different individuals that left me wanting to learn more about this man, a true Texas legend! Herman has done many things throughout his life, from guiding hunters from Mexico to Canada, Professional Saddle Bronc riding, to being an established and award-winning author of several books and countless articles for some of the most iconic magazines you know. The stories are endless, and we get to hear several on this episode. His words flow seamlessly as he speaks about days gone by and the memories he has made with so many people throughout his journey. Make sure and check this episode out and give Herman a follow on his Facebook and grab a copy of one of his books from The Lost Rider series.

For most of his life, Chef Joshua Schwencke has utilized food and the different ways of cooking it as a gateway to teaching people the value of doing it yourself. Whether it is through the harvest of wild game or shopping at your local meat market, Josh has been instrumental in teaching people not just how to cook, but to have fun with it, learn the history behind it and to not be afraid of trying something new. We had a great conversation at the 2024 Hunt Fish Podcast Summit and also were treated to one of his Gastronomy Live cooking events and the group enjoyed a wonderful meal together. Besides his Gastronomy Live events, Josh can also be found at events across the country serving as the Executive Chef for the Wild Sheep Foundation and the Women Hunt Program, along with also helping with the Field to Fork classes at the FTW Ranch in Texas. Be sure to follow him on his social media channels and attend one of his events!

On this week's episode of Impact Outdoors, we are once again coming to you from the 2024 Hunt Fish Podcast Summit at the Warren Ranch here in Texas. This week we are excited to be joined by Basheer Benhalim, one of Hunters of Color's Texas Ambassadors. Hunters of Color is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with the goal of increasing BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) participation in hunting for the sake of conservation, food sovereignty, and to preserve their ancestral traditions. Basheer has a deeply rooted background here in Texas and grew up in the outdoors. Having lived in different places across the U. S., Basheer has been able to experience a wide variety of hunts and meet tons of people along the way. As one of the ambassadors for HOC, Basheer has been able to help provide opportunities and be a mentor to many new individuals looking to see what the outdoors lifestyle is all about. If you're looking to get involved in a great group and learn about hunting, fishing, conservation and so much more, maybe HOC is the right place to go to. Be sure to check them out on their social media accounts and become a member today!

Very excited to welcome Indiana First Lady Janet Holcomb onto the show for this episode for a great conversation about her growing up in the outdoors, navigating through her career in business and politics and then reengaging with the outdoors through her love of hunting and shooting sports. Janet has done a great job as First Lady by being a mentor to so many in getting into the outdoors. Janet and I talk about what it was like after being part of a home invasion and how that spurred her to take action in being better prepared and trained in handling a firearm. And we also got to talk about some of her recent hunting adventures and her passion for sheep hunting. Don't miss this one! Be sure to subscribe to the show and leave us a rating and review!!!
