There's no getting around it, "Whatever the Case May Be" is a bummer of an episode. Not because the story is tragic but because the episode itself continues the tradition of delivering Kate flashbacks that don't tell us anything new. While there are fun island adventures to be had, Kate's storyline is full of frustrating redundancies and dead ends.

Pierce and Derek hash out these frustrations, and theorize about the missed opportunities surrounding the island's resident outlaw.
