Genesis 15-17 As the account of Abram continues, we come to the seemingly impossible promises God is making to Abram. In chapter 15, we have the record of the covenant God makes with Abram, following his show of faith (15:6), which God considered right - meaning Abram responded by faith, he rightly responded to the promises of God. Abram believed that God was true, dependable, trustworthy and steadfast and that because of these attributes, God could be trusted to fulfill his promises to Abram and Sarai. Despite their faith, there was still a struggle to wait. Numerous times, Abram and Sarai attempted to solve the problem of no heir. Still God remained faithful to Abram, changing his name to Abraham, and his wife's name to Sarah. God informs him that he will have the son of promise by Sarah his wife and it would come in a year, to which, Abraham laughed. God informs him that he is to name this son, Isaac which means "to laugh". God remained faithful despite the doubts and struggles of Abraham and Sarah. God will remain faithful to you as well, despite our doubts and struggles at times. God is and will faithfully keep his promises to you, even when it seems humanly impossible.
Genesis is a book of new beginnings. It offers the origins of the universe, the atmosphere, the human race, language, culture, marriage, language, order, time, worship, and a chosen people. Genesis focuses on God as creator and sustainer of all things. Genesis introduces the patriarchs of Israel and the promises made to them by God. Genesis demonstrates throughout that God has spoken, spoken in creation, spoken in blessing humanity, spoken even in the curses and judgment because of sin and evil of humanity. Genesis is focused on the communication of God with humanity, communication that presents the truths of God, about himself and his world he created.
