  • Understanding Change with Dr. Bihn
Imua welcomes back the podcast series, opening the first episode of this school year with the new Head of School, Dr. Bihn and Dora J, podcast editor, to discuss her journey from teaching literature across cultures to leading schools. Dr. Bihn shares her first impressions of ‘Iolani, her philosophy of listening before leading, and the lessons she has carried from working in schools across Europe and the United States. She also looks ahead at ‘Iolani’s evolving relationship with AI, student learning, and the future of the campus. Lastly, she reflects on what it means to lead a community with curiosity and humility that allows her to both personally and professionally take care of her people. As you listen, think about what your attitude is on change. How do you carry out on accepting and adjusting to change? And finally, how do you evolve alongside constant, continuous shifts of life?

  • Something Lit: Analyzing the Slays and Nays of Slang

Language moves fast, but nothing captures the pulse of a generation quite like slang. Imua seniors Madeline, Joshua, and Yumi explore the evolution of everyday expressions from around the last 50 years. By tracing what was once “cool,” “lit,” or even “savage” to what’s trending today, learn how slang both shapes and reflects culture. Drawing from Imua’s past coverage on viral trends, they examine why certain phrases stick while others fade into nostalgia. Since these are some of Imua’s most viewed topics, take a deeper look into it!

  • Predictions and Postmortems

In this revealing episode of the Imua Podcast, host Chisato shares exclusive pre-election audio that serves as both prediction and postmortem. Join AP politics and government teachers from Iolani as they analyze the blueprint for GOP conservative dominance that shaped the 2024 election outcome. This candid conversation explores how Republicans have been architecting electoral power through decades-long strategy, while examining the systemic factors beyond the ballot that ultimately decided the election. Our guests offer a prescient analysis of how the GOP engineered structural advantages—from REDMAP's gerrymandering to the Federalist Society's judicial pipeline and Project 2025's government reconstruction plans—revealing the meticulous design behind today's political landscape. Recorded before the results were known, these voices illuminate how conservative forces methodically built power while Democratic infrastructure faltered, providing crucial insight into the fault lines that define our current political reality and challenging listeners to become engaged citizens in a democracy at a crossroads. The episode is a powerful call to action for students and citizens alike, challenging the culture of political disengagement and reminding listeners that democracy is not something that is handed to us — it is something we choose to do.
