Mícheál O' Meallaigh talks to Garry Kelly on Fleadh Radio about his career commissioning programmes at TG4 since its establishment in 1996. Since its inception, TG4 has made the transition from a three-hour-a-day broadcaster to producing 1,700 hours of original content per year. TG4 is now a leader in digital broadcasting and provides more jobs in the TV industry for younger presenters than any other station. He subsequently commissioned the first Irish language comedy drama series C.U. Burn as well as series such as The Running Mate, Gleann Ceo, Luí na Gréine, Rásaí na Gaillimh, An Crisis and Corp & Anam. He also commissioned the series of short dramas adapted from works of Irish literature — Údar and Scéal, and feature films Kings, Cré na Cille and An Klondike which is closing the Fleadh this year. He is particularly proud to have facilitated several important feature documentaries, including Lón sa Spéir and Bernadette: Notes on a Political Journey.
This interview was recorded on Saturday 11th July 2015.
