When Sam was on her big OE in the UK, she landed a great gig as the nanny to a member of the extended royal family.

In her care, were 2 little girls, who always warned her about what she needed to do if they were to bump into Queen Elizabeth.

Then, one day, while out on the palace grounds, they saw the royal corgis galloping towards them, so she knew who they were about to meet!

The vibrant 19-year-old kiwi, with the engaging smile, stood on a stage in Missouri in front of 16,000 people, and a global TV audience of 700 million to win and change the trajectory of her life forever. There were unbelievably happy times ahead - and incredible tragedy too.

On In My Day, Ray called in to talk about The Herald in the 1950's with returned soldiers losing their RSA badges (no not medals) in pubs as they came to terms with the end of WW2, finding solace in the bottom of a beer glass, and then advertising their loss in The Herald classifieds 'lost and found'.

After three published ads and no success, returned soldiers were issued with a new RSA badge.

The motorsport legend Bruce McLaren, died at the age of 32 at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in England doing what he loved. Bruce McLaren was a New Zealand racing driver, automotive designer, engineer, and motorsport executive who competed in Formula One from 1958 to 1970.

On In My Day, his daughter, Amanda McLaren, called in to talk about her talented father, along with old school friends and mates from throughout his motoring career.

This week on In My Day caller and former lighthouse keeper Kevin shared his experience witnessing the infamous Kaikoura lights. 

The Kaikoura lights refers to a series of UFO sightings in the skies above the Kaikoura mountain ranges in December 1978.

A television crew from Melbourne's Channel 0 were able to capture footage of the lights while onboard a Safe Air plane that was making a newspaper run from Wellington to Christchurch.

This week on In My Day caller Anna reminisced about pneumatic tubes, also known as Lamson Tubes, in department stores, and their modern-day use in emergency departments. 

Pneumatic transportation was invented around 1800 and was used in offices to transport small packages and mail, but were largely phased out of stores in the 1970's.
