In Peace I Will Lie Down

“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” - Psalm 4:8.

We live in a tired generation. Many people sleep, but few actually rest. The body lies down, but the mind stays awake—trapped in worries, deadlines, and fears. The truth is, real rest doesn’t come from a fancy mattress or anxiety pills. It comes from a heart that trusts.

The psalmist wrote these words surrounded by enemies. He knew there were people who wanted to destroy him, yet he still lay down and slept. How? Because he knew who held his safety. His peace didn’t depend on the absence of problems, but on the presence of God.

And that’s where most of us go wrong: we want peace without trust. We want rest without surrender. We want to lie down in safety, but still keep control of everything ourselves. But today, God is saying, “Let Me handle it. Let Me be your refuge.”

When you truly trust God, it’s not that your problems disappear—it’s that they lose the power to steal your sleep. Faith doesn’t remove danger, but it gives you peace inside it. That’s what happened with David, and it can happen with you too.

Maybe lately you’ve been struggling to sleep—worried about your future, hurt by someone, or unsure of what’s next. But the same God who watched over David at night is calling you to trust Him now.

Before you sleep tonight, pray honestly:

“Lord, I give You everything I can’t control. Help me rest in Your arms and wake up in Your will.”

Then close your eyes. Take a deep breath.

The peace of God will fill your heart.

And you’ll realize—there’s no softer pillow than a conscience at peace with Him.

Tonight, do something different. Give what’s keeping you awake into God’s hands. Choose to trust. Choose to rest. Because only the Lord can make you live—and sleep—in true safety.
