In Matthew 13:1–23, Jesus tells the Parable of the Sower, describing a farmer who scatters seed that falls on four different kinds of soil: the path, rocky ground, thorns, and good soil. Each soil represents a different response to the word of the kingdom — hardness, shallowness, distraction, or fruitful receptivity. Jesus explains that while the seed is the same, the condition of the heart determines the outcome. The passage calls listeners to examine how they receive God’s Word and to cultivate hearts that bear lasting fruit.
