In Luke 18:1–17, Jesus teaches through the parable of the persistent widow that His followers should always pray and not lose heart, trusting that God will bring justice for those who cry out to Him. He then contrasts the self-righteous prayer of a Pharisee with the humble repentance of a tax collector, showing that those who humble themselves before God are the ones who are justified. Finally, Jesus welcomes little children and teaches that the kingdom of God must be received with the humble, trusting dependence of a child.
