In Matthew 5:17–48, Jesus clarifies that He has not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, bringing it to its intended completion and depth. He then moves beyond external obedience to the inner life of the heart, teaching that anger, lust, dishonesty, revenge, and hatred all reveal deeper spiritual realities. In this section, righteousness is no longer measured merely by outward conformity, but by a transformed heart that reflects the character of the Father — culminating in the call to love even one’s enemies and to “be perfect” as our heavenly Father is perfect.
