In Mark 2:1–17, Jesus heals a paralyzed man whose friends lower him through the roof, first declaring the man’s sins forgiven, which amazes the crowd and angers the scribes. To show His authority to forgive sins, Jesus then heals the man, who rises and walks before everyone. The passage concludes with Jesus calling Levi the tax collector and declaring that He came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
