In Philippians 3:1-10, Paul is warning them of the false teachers as from a Jewish mindset, they thought that they could earn God’s love and acceptance if they checked all the boxes and did what they were supposed to do. The false teachers are trying to reintroduce the idea that they have to earn God’s love. Paul is warning them not to go back to the bondage that they have been saved from because we are saved by grace through faith not works. God’s love for you has nothing to do with how good or bad you are. It's all about the finished work of Christ that He did on the cross for you. We can't get caught up in the cycle of thinking and making the lists of “God loves me; He loves me not” based on what we do good and bad. We must lay our religious list down and exchange it for this relationship that Jesus offers us. Listen to this sermon about the exchange of religion versus relationship in the eleventh part of our In The Word series walking through Philippians.
