Incessant Needs.
My coffee doesn't
do it anymore,
Liquid Demerol's great
but it requires having surgery
as a side effect.
Liquor is quicker but
vodka gives me headaches,
after four hours
of a spirited mental void.
Water has to be bottled
to be any good
and green tea is just
a watered down version
of what you wish it could be.
Coke is a temporal fix
but things seldom go better,
whether up your nose or
right out of a bottle.
and Qualudes are.....................????
Damn, I can't remember,
but my grass was always greener
then the other guy's bag,
back when it was offensive
on a federal level.
All my beer's been canned
cause with its larger chug hole
it still gives lousy head.
Sex is out there but
you need affidavits
to score a healthy fix,
plus you have to be committed
or the world disdains you.
and Heroin never was heroic.
It steals all you have and then
leaves you with a Jones
you can never keep up with.
Nitrous oxide is a gas,
but laughing till it hurts
defeats the purpose.
and Speed kills, but
at least it's quick.
and my Hash was always better
with corned beef added.
and Love is my biggest high
but it seldom comes in
the same strength,
it can't be bought
and its gift can often
cause you to take
up all the things
that I've listed above.
and Cigarettes are
breathtaking..... literally....
Because Happiness can't be injected
ingested or inhaled for any longer
than a brief oasis, in your day.
and Ladies are nice
but I'm having trouble
getting into them lately.
Lately??
But Children still
brighten my world
especially my son
and poetry is my refuge
from the sober world in
which I now exist.
Creative juices are my
drink of choice now,
yet I'm still haunted by
my old, incessant needs.
