Welcome to episode number 29 of Inclusion with Mansi. I am your host,  Mansi Chandorkar. Each week, we are going to discuss various areas of inclusion and how you can be an inclusion champion!  We aim to move beyond just awareness, into acceptance and embracing differences. Since October is Dyslexia awareness month, we will have a special month to listen to individuals with dyslexia and other stakeholders share their journey with us.  Today we are going to be in conversation with Arya Gupta.

Arya is 20 years old, she is about to complete her bachelors and looking forward to pursuing MBA. She is currently studying for her CAT exams. 

She shares her experiences with dyslexia, the examination support she received and challenges she faced in school academic and others.

Title: Until Someone Tells You

I am fed up. I am fed up by the heat of the heater, the hurts by the hammer and cuts by the cutter, I fell, I stood. I fell, unhappy, I fell, distressed. But once I saw the mirror and seeing myself develop as a diamond, I stood up. I stood up but this time with a smile because this time I knew my beauty and my power were unbreakable and unbeatable!

Aryan is a student of Pune university. 3rd year (final year) Bachelors of Vocational in IT and ITES (Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services.

He describes his experience of playing the harmonium in a live concert of 50-60 people. How he overcame challenges, uploading it on his YouTube channel. After 4 years of learning and practice he played in a concert.

He started playing drums after being inspired by his friends. He had an experience with drums earlier in school and now has taken it up seriously. He has a calm and peaceful teacher, Mr. Zubin Balsara. He encourages him and is a lot of fun.

He strongly believes that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it and nothing can stand in your way as you will figure a way out.

Music helps him calm down when he is frustrated or in a bad mood. When he plays 2-3 songs, it helps him relax and cool his mind. Music has helped him improve his memory as well since he has to remember many ragas.

He also jammed with Rohit sir who is a saxophone player and had a positive experience.

Each week, we are going to discuss various areas of inclusion and how you can be an inclusion champion!  We aim to move beyond just awareness, into acceptance and embracing differences.  Today we are going to be in conversation with Akshay Shanbhag who will share his experience with drumming with a professional saxophone player.

Akshay is a 5th year Physics undergrad student at IISER, Pune. He has done research in nano mechanics, solid state physics and now in electronics very soon. 

Akshay was a part of a professional masterclass by Zubin sir where Mr. Rohit Patwardhan, a professional saxophone player jammed with the students. Akshay describes his experience with jamming and encourages students to learn new instruments and when given an opportunity to jam with professionals and others who play different instruments.

Shantanu Chitale is a 20 year old, autistic who has completed his 12th from Symbiosis and is currently a second year in BTS (Bachelors in Tourism Studies). He wants to build a career in tourism.

Autism, according to him, is where he is different from other people. Some challenges that he faces are writing, reading long passages, and expressing his feelings. He still has full confidence in himself.

Shantanu shares his experiences about:

Tips for Teachers - Give extra time not only in exams but also to write journals and complete assignments. Have a nice attitude, be kind and supportive towards students with special needs.

Message for listeners- Never give up, believe in yourself. I am as good as anybody else. Don’t feel shy to ask for help as people are aware about Autism and most people are very supportive.
