The Michael Ostrolenk Show

Independent learning and The Hub, with Luba Vangelova, #EmergentHuman

Listen Later

Welcome to the Emergent Human with Michael Ostrolenk, where we explore optimizing health, embodied spirituality, and post-conventional living.
Today I speak with Luba Vangelova (http://www.lubavangelova.com/), a co-founder of several pioneering, mixed-ages co-learning groups for independent learners, including The Hub (https://thehub.community/), and author of numerous articles on the future of learning for media outlets such as The Atlantic and the NPR/PBS MindShift websites.
Vangelova discusses conventional education, specifically how the approach does not adapt to the various needs and skills of individual children. She details alternative models in which children are a part of the selection process of their learning. In response to concerns often raised about alternative methods of education, Vangelova notes that children, with rare exceptions, have an innate drive to learn the skills required to be productive members of a community. Key among the benefits is that children are responsible contributors to their own educational process, fostering drive, ownership, and self-determination.
To learn more about Vangelova and her work, visit The Hub (https://thehub.community/) and her website (http://www.lubavangelova.com/). You can also find additional resources at https://alternativestoschool.com/.
I’d like to give a shout out to my friend Erwan Le Corre and his new online program called MovNat® Mobility is a revolutionary four-week program built with simple, practical movements that can be applied to your everyday life. https://movnat.thinkific.com/courses/movnat-mobility
Today’s show is brought to you by Cosper Scafidi, an amazing body worker in the Northern Virginia area who has integrated different somatic practices into his work. To learn more about his work, visit his website: www.cosperscafidi.com/.
We will close out today’s show with one of my favorite singer/song writers Stuart Davis and his song “Nothing in Between” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdRqCc3LfDI.
