Happy New Year, Full Screeners! We're back! Aaaaand taking no prisoners >:) It's the hits and misses, winners and losers, slam dunks and laughing stocks of streaming in 2022 list. Are y'all ready?
We kick off the episode by talking a little bit about the Golden Globes 2023 (00:00) and how it relates to streaming.
In the “All Hands” section (06:41), we declare our winners and - like any good product manager - the WHYs behind each decision: Hulu (07:16), Apple TV+ (15:18), The Roku Channel (25:16), Shudder (28:43), and Paramount+ (33:48).
In the “Missed Objectives and Key Results” section (43:44), we go for the jugular for losers: HBO Max (44:17), Disney+ (51:42), Amazon Prime Video (57:55), Peacock (1:03:34), and Netflix (1:09:34). We pause here to address the New Yorker profile from January 2023 focusing on Netflix's Head of Content Bela Bajaria and the company strategy (1:18:02).
In “Final Thoughts and Wrapup,” (1:26:12) we take a look at what streaming could be moving forward if it moved beyond just reacting to culture.
So if you’d like to tell us how you’ve been personally victimized by the SLEW of content cancellations in the past few months, rest assured we’ll be awaiting your snark with bated breath.
