Inexcusable Book of Romans pt4 on Sound the Shofar

Listen Later

Inexcusable is the fourth word in Romans chapter two, verse one. It comes on the heels of another word of warning of judgment of men in regard to the sins they openly commit in the last few sentences of Romans chapter one. Instead of raw carnal sins in Romans one, we find that judging another man is the issue. Here we find in the Roman city that Paul is addressing Jews who are criticizing Gentiles. For all the Jews who had light and the covenant, they too had sinned. Eventually, the centuries rift between Jew and Gentile begins when the gospel of Christ is readily accepted by the Gentiles. Paul will go in depth about the Jews, Gentiles, and the gospel later on. He is doing this for a reason. That is clearly the answer to the sin of man. Whether carnal lust, gossip, backbiting, or judging another; all land people in condemnation. This is a good word for today and for today’s America. Especially the political scene and chaos.

Inexcusable is the blank slate to which the Apostle directly challenges those he is writing too. We know Jews had come to Pentecost from Rome. At that time, Peter gave a call of the gospel and repentance to all those Jews gathered at the time. Now returned to Rome, the faith is spreading, but troubles abound. Here the challenge and declaration by the Apostle that declared of himself “as to touching the righteousness, which is in the law, blameless” challenges the believers at Rome. Here we find a church more than likely was all Jews who were converted at Pentecost in Jerusalem. Along the way, Gentiles were converted at Rome. But now the Apostle needed to bring truth and teaching. Romans brings many solid foundations of faith and truth to bear for both Jew and Gentile.
