Kojima Productions presents: Infinite Grenade Launcher's reactions to the new Death Stranding footage from E3 2018.

Death Stranding is an action game set in an open world environment, which also includes multiplayer functions. Kojima compared the genre to how his earlier game Metal Gear – now considered as a stealth game – was called an action game during its release because the stealth genre was not considered to exist at the time.

According to Kojima, one of the key aspects of the announcement trailer was the idea of a connection between life and death. He explained one of the main themes through a short story by Kōbō Abe; The first tool created by humans was a stick, meant as protection by putting a distance between oneself and "bad things", and that the second was a rope, used to secure things one finds important. Kojima compared the main "tools" in action games – punching, shooting and kicking – to sticks, and that in Death Stranding, he wants people to communicate through the game equivalent of ropes. While the title refers to the phenomenon of cetacean stranding, "strand" is an alternative meaning for shore, and also stands for strings and connections.

When the main character, named Sam, dies, the player is sent to another world, referred to as an upside-down world submerged in water. Kojima suggests that when the player returns to the world of the living, anything they did or any damage that an explosion or the likes causes when the player dies remains persistent in the world and does not go away. Another element talked about is the existence of a type of rain, called "Timefall", with the ability to age or deteriorate whatever it hits. Another gameplay element talked about is the player's ability to interact with the environment and wander outside of the character's body, as well as recovering items when they die.

The Xbox Adaptive Controller can be connected to external switches, buttons, mounts, and joysticks — giving gamers with limited mobility the ability to customize their setups.

Quadstick:

Designed for quadriplegics, the Quadstick is a mouth-operated joystick that works by blowing air into or sipping air from it.

PDP One-Handed Joystick:

This analog joystick has mappable buttons that enable players to customize their gaming setups and has a soft elastomer-coated finish for extra comfort and grip.

RAM Mount with Ablenet Buttons:

Two AbleNet Jelly Bean buttons attached to RAM Mounts round bases and arms. This setup allows a player to control the game with one leg placed between the buttons.

Development:

In 2015, a team of engineers at Microsoft’s Xbox and gaming division began working on a prototype controller to help improve accessibility for video game input. The device was designed and refined during several internal hackathon events where they built a controller that could use third-party accessories familiar to disabled gamers. In 2017, Microsoft decided to turn the prototype into a product and began collaborating with and consulting accessory manufacturers and groups in the gaming accessibility field such as The AbleGames Foundation.

Battlefield V will focus extensively on party-based features and mechanics, scarcity of resources, and remove “abstractions” from game mechanics to increase realism. There will be an expanded focus on player customization through the new Company system, where players will be able to create multiple characters with various cosmetic and weapon options. Cosmetic items and the currency used to purchase others will be earned by completing in-game objectives.

The game will feature several new multiplayer modes, including the “continuous” campaign mode “Tides of War”, and “Grand Operations”, an expansion of the “Operations” mode introduced in Battlefield 1 that focuses on matches taking place across multiple stages to simulate a campaign from the war. In Grand Operations, each round will have specific objectives, and performance in each stage will influence the next. Games will culminate with a “Final Stand”, with players using only a primary weapon with limited ammo, and no respawns. Similarly to Battlefield 1, the game will feature a collection of single-player “war stories” based on aspects of World War II.

 

Development:

DICE unveiled the first details surrounding Battlefield V on 23 May 2018, with more information to be unveiled during the EA Play press conference near E3 2018 in June. DICE has stated that, unlike Battlefield 1, it does not plan to use paid downloadable content or “loot boxes” “that affect gameplay” within Battlefield V; new content will be added to the game for all players over time (which, itself, will progress through the different stages of World War II), at no additional charge. The decision to exclude these features was made following the outrage over the loot box system in Star Wars Battlefront II, another EA DICE title.
