Then, if the book does well and you need to reprint, you have to pay those costs again, which eats into your profits. If you have the goal of having your book published the customary way by a big-name publishing house, get ready for a long wait.
First, your book has to be approved. That can take a year or more, if it happens at all! Most people who have the dream of publishing their book have a folder full of rejection letters to show for their efforts. If by chance your book is approved, it is not published right away. There's a wait for that, too. All told, it could be several years before your book hits the market, and even more time before you see any profit from your labor!
