Thinking Machines Lab has introduced Inkling, a massive 975-billion parameter AI model released with open weights to encourage developer customization. This multimodal transformer utilizes a Mixture-of-Experts architecture to process text, audio, and visual data within a significant one-million token context window. Users can access the model through the Tinker platform for fine-tuning or download it via Hugging Face for local deployment on high-end hardware. A standout feature is its controllable thinking effort, which allows developers to prioritize either rapid response speeds or deep reasoning performance. While positioned as a versatile generalist, the model excels in agentic coding, tool use, and calibrated forecasting across various languages. Alongside the primary release, the lab is previewing Inkling-Small, a more efficient version designed for low-latency tasks.
