Yandex B2B Tech, Yandex School of Data Analysis, and the Far Eastern Federal University have developed an open-source neural network to expedite the cleanup of remote coastlines, focusing on combating plastic pollution. The technology automates waste detection, accelerates cleanup operations, and is currently being tested in the Arctic after successful implementation in the South Kamchatka Federal Nature Reserve. The neural network utilizes computer vision to map waste locations, estimate volume, and optimize logistics, offering a promising solution to the critical issue of plastic waste in oceans.
