We continue in segment three with Tom Chorske and getting traded to the New Jersey Devils.  He was having a tough time playing for Pat Burns in Montreal and a fresh start is what he felt would help him. 

He arrived in New Jersey when the fortunes of the team were changing. Scott Stevens came to the team and the building process was started for the Devils. Tommy McVie was his coach and told him "we are going to teach you how to play the game at the NHL level". 

He noticed how Lou Lamoriello who was the President and GM of the Devils operated and he learned the system and style that was presented. The culture and environment of the team grew and the team got close. Once that happened success started to gel for the Devils. 

Tom learned his role with the Devils on being a Penalty Killer and learning about how to battle for the puck along the boards. He was on the top group for penalty killing and played against Lemieux, Messier, Sakic. Learning the system was vital to success. Also, learning where you fit in on the team. He was on the top group 

We also discuss Patrick Roy and Marty Brodeur. Tom had the pleasure of playing with both of them in his NHL career.  One thing that always stuck out to him was they never let pucks stay in their nets during drills in practice. Felt it would show they gave up goals and they wanted a clean net.
