Inside the hyped up mosquito zappers - neat circuitry
I'm getting these things pushed in my advert feed a lot. It's one of those well scripted adverts where they make bold claims about new technology and back it up with a story of how a top scientist made a major breakthrough in trapping mosquitoes. They will probably be dropshipping cheap and commonly available units at an inflated price.
This style of unit does not tend to attract biting insects as they are attracted to the carbon dioxide in breath and chemical aromas like octenol. The units may attract light seeking flies and moths in a very dark room where the (dull) light is the brightest lightsource.
The most interesting thing about these units is the boost circuitry that steps the 5V USB supply up to around 400V.
If you go camping and want to protect yourself from mosquito bites in your tent then I think the pyrethrin vapour units are still the safest option. They slowly release vapour from a pad or bottle that disrupts the mosquito's biting behaviour.

A more proven method of trapping mosquitoes is machines like the Mosquito Magnet that use a small amount of propane gas to create a warm CO2 trail that lures the insects to a vacuum based collector.
Here's a link to an interesting video about how Texas put "mosquito fish" into ponds and it had a major effect on reducing the mosquito nuisance.
