Inside the miracle Tesla heater

Listen Later

This heater is amazing. Despite its small size it puts out much more heat than a traditional electric heater for a fraction of the cost. Apparently.... But in reality a watt is a watt and a fan heater is a fan heater. When the scammers claim it will heat your home in minutes they are not lying. It will definitely heat your home by a tiny fraction of one degree.

This little heater is OK for small areas. The design and circuitry is actually pretty good, but it lacks a last resort thermal fuse to kill the power in the event of catastrophic failure. The nature of the heating element is such that it will theoretically self regulate based on temperature, but it will still potentially melt softer plastics in the vicinity if left to bake for a long time with a failed fan or blocked airflow.

These little heaters do have their place. They are good for putting a little warm air into a small area, like a bench or desk where you may be sitting for a while and therefore not creating much body heat.
I would recommend that they are not left unattended for long periods of time, purely as a precaution in case they do fail.

Although often described as being 800W heaters, that is roughly the peak power draw as they start up, quickly settling to around 300W (depending on ambient temperature). The fan has a high and low setting which makes a slight difference to the fan speed that in turn affects the output power as follows:-

(Tested at an ambient temperature of 12C)
High setting = 315W
Low setting = 290W

I recommend turning the unit off with the power button or remote as there is a 38 second cool-down cycle where the heater turns off but the fan runs at full speed to remove residual heat.

Standby power is a very respectable 0.12W.

The timer function can be set between zero (continuous) and 12. Presumably timed in hours.

If you want to buy one of these then here's a handy affiliate link that doesn't affect the price you pay. But you will definitely be paying much less than if you bought it from the scammers and there'd also much less risk of being charged for four of them and having an ongoing payment subscription set up on the scammers websites.

Heater link on AliExpress (not a sponsor):-
https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c2J8lz6j
Guide price around £10.

There's a certain irony that the scammers could just dropship these heaters with a generous markup without committing fraud and risking having their sites blocked.
