From Foster Care to Army Intelligence: How Charles Peterson Turned Trauma Into Strength

Charles Peterson’s life began with foster care, adoption, trauma, and uncertainty—but he refused to let his past define his future.

In this powerful episode of the Inspire & Impact Podcast, Charles shares his remarkable journey from a difficult childhood to serving 20 years in the U.S. Army as a counterintelligence agent, working in Iraq, building a career at Microsoft, becoming a husband and father, and launching his own mentalism business.

Charles opens up about discovering his Choctaw heritage, overcoming the emotional effects of his childhood, learning resilience through military training, adjusting to civilian life, and developing what he calls a “relentless optimist” mindset.

He also explains how his counterintelligence experience taught him to understand body language, human behavior, influence, truth, and deception—and even demonstrates his mentalism skills during the interview.

    In this conversation, you'll discover:

    • How childhood trauma can influence adult relationships and behavior
    • Why your past does not have to determine your future
    • How Charles developed resilience during 20 years in the Army

  • Women’s Rights Are Human Rights: A Powerful Conversation with Zolal Habibi

What does it take to dedicate your life to standing up for women’s rights, equal rights, freedom, and human dignity?

In this powerful episode of Inspire & Impact, Daniel Rosenstein sits down with Zolal Habibi, a human rights and women’s rights advocate of Iranian descent who has spent more than 25 years advocating for human rights and political change in Iran.

For Zolal, this mission is deeply personal. Her father, an Iranian writer and political dissident, was killed when she was only seven years old. Rather than allowing tragedy to define her through anger or revenge, Zolal explains how love, compassion, perseverance, and a belief in something greater than herself have helped sustain her lifelong commitment.

We discuss the importance of women’s rights in Iran and around the world, equal rights, women in leadership, political prisoners, freedom, and the importance of refusing to give up—even when change seems impossible.

Zolal also shares a powerful lesson about dealing with anger and adversity: lasting change cannot simply be fueled by revenge. For her, love and compassion provide the positive energy necessary to keep moving forward.

Our conversation also explores the extraordinary richness of Iranian and Persian culture. We discuss Persian poetry and thinkers such as Rumi and Sa'di, the importance of love and our shared humanity, and the long history of Iranian contributions to literature, art, philosophy, science, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and culture.

Above all, Zolal reminds us that each of us can make a difference. Her message is to stand for your principles, take responsibility, keep moving forward, and never give up.

  • Best Advice From an Award-Winning National Geographic Photographer & Coach

What happens when you finally achieve your biggest childhood dream—and realize it still doesn’t make you happy?

In this powerful episode of Inspire & Impact, Daniel Rosenstein sits down with Jen Guyton, an award-winning National Geographic photographer, scientist, storyteller, and transformational coach, for a fascinating conversation about success, ambition, happiness, and discovering who you really are beyond your achievements.

Jen spent years pursuing a dream she had carried since childhood: becoming a National Geographic photographer. After years working as a scientist and photographer in Africa, her work eventually led to a National Geographic assignment photographing spotted hyenas. She ultimately achieved one of the biggest milestones of her career—a National Geographic cover story.

    But something unexpected happened.

After the excitement and congratulations faded, Jen realized she didn't feel fulfilled. She had accomplished what she thought would finally make her happy, yet she still felt stressed, anxious, and disconnected from herself.

Jen calls this “the achievement trap”—the belief that once we get the career, recognition, money, relationship, house, or other accomplishment we've been pursuing, we'll finally feel happy and complete. Her experience taught her that external achievement may provide temporary validation, but it can't create lasting self-worth.

In this conversation, Jen shares her remarkable journey from scientist to National Geographic photographer to transformational coach. She talks about working in Africa, photographing wildlife, coming within feet of a male lion, and taking the bold opportunities that helped launch her photography career.

But the conversation goes much deeper than photography.

Jen explains why she eventually had to slow down and discover who she was without her career defining her identity. She shares how therapy, self-reflection, spiritual exploration, and other experiences changed the way she viewed success and ultimately inspired her to become a coach.

Today, Jen helps high achievers reconnect with themselves through what she calls the Rewild Method. Instead of simply adding more routines, habits, and self-improvement practices, her approach explores what beliefs, behaviors, expectations, and patterns can be removed so people can reconnect with what genuinely feels true to them.

Jen also shares an important message for anyone who feels successful on the outside but unfulfilled on the inside: slow down, get honest about what's working and what isn't, and pay attention to the tension between what you think you should be doing and what you genuinely want.

Whether you're an entrepreneur, executive, creative professional, photographer, or simply someone questioning what success really means, this conversation may help you look at ambition, happiness, and your own definition of a meaningful life differently.

  • Stop Living on Autopilot: How to Design the Life You Really Want | Joy-Yafit Pascal

What if you've built a successful life—but deep down, you know it isn't the life you truly want?

In this episode of Inspire & Impact, Daniel Rosenstein talks with Joy-Yafit Pascal about walking away from a successful 14-year marketing career, moving from Israel to Germany, overcoming fear and self-doubt, and learning how to intentionally design your life.

Joy shares the unforgettable New Zealand experience that helped change the direction of her life, her involvement in the Tony Robbins community, and the frightening rafting accident in Nepal that taught her an important lesson: we can't always choose the river life puts us in, but we can choose how we navigate it.

You'll also discover Joy's powerful “Ticket to Life” philosophy and why she believes one of our biggest mistakes is assuming we'll always have more time.

Joy explains how meaningful change doesn't necessarily require quitting your job, moving across the world, or completely starting over. Sometimes transformation begins with what she calls a “two-millimeter shift”—one conversation, one decision, one question, or one small action that begins moving your life in a different direction.

    Daniel and Joy discuss:

    • How to recognize when you're living on autopilot
    • Success versus genuine fulfillment
    • Fear, self-doubt and limiting beliefs
    • Reinventing yourself in midlife
    • Lessons from Tony Robbins
    • Asking yourself better questions

  • You Don’t Need to Earn Your Worth

What happens when you achieve outward success—but still don’t feel happy, fulfilled, or at peace?

In this episode of Inspire & Impact, host Daniel Rosenstein speaks with high-performance executive coach and author Steve Barton, creator of the registered coaching process The Game of Ten®.

Steve shares how he helped grow his family’s floral business from approximately $200,000 to $2 million in annual revenue—only to discover that financial success alone could not provide the happiness and inner stability he was seeking. That realization launched a decades-long journey into personal development, awareness, emotional intelligence, and intuitive leadership.

Steve explains the difference between The Game of Ten®—operating from awareness, confidence, and intentionality—and what he calls “The Game Often Played,” a reactive state shaped by fear, self-doubt, guilt, shame, overthinking, and old emotional patterns.

    In this conversation, you’ll discover:

    • Why “I’ll be happy when…” can become a limiting personal contract
    • How hidden beliefs can influence leadership, relationships, and major decisions
    • Why high achievers often become their own harshest critics
    • The difference between reacting under pressure and responding with awareness
    • How coaching can reveal patterns that are difficult to recognize alone
    • Why Steve teaches, “I am enough, I do enough, and I have enough”
    • A simple 15-second awareness practice for interrupting overthinking
    • How Steve’s personal transformation changed his understanding of success
    • What writing a book with his 18-year-old son taught him about parenting and accountability
    • Why becoming unapologetically yourself is one of Steve’s most important lessons

Steve also discusses his remarkable personal awakening, the challenging period when he rebuilt his life after divorce, and how those experiences contributed to the development of The Game of Ten®.

His central message is both simple and powerful: You do not have to earn your worth. You begin as a ten—and personal growth is often about releasing the thoughts, stories, and conditioning that prevent you from experiencing it.

  • The Dyslexic Brain’s Hidden Strengths | Reading, Writing, Confidence and AI

What if a child struggling with dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, or another learning disability isn’t lazy or unintelligent—but simply hasn’t been taught in a way that works with their brain?

In this episode of Inspire & Impact: The Podcast Interviews™, host Daniel Rosenstein speaks with Russell Van Brocklen, a New York State Senate-funded dyslexia researcher and founder of Dyslexia Classes.

Russell shares his journey from having first-grade reading and writing skills to succeeding in law school, conducting dyslexia research, training educators, and developing strategies to help struggling students become confident readers, writers, and learners. His story demonstrates why reading difficulties should never be mistaken for a lack of intelligence, creativity, curiosity, or potential.

Russell explains what dyslexia can feel like from the inside and why many bright children can discuss a subject intelligently but struggle to organize their thoughts on paper. He explores how dyslexia, ADD, and ADHD can affect motivation, reading, writing, organization, and classroom performance—and why labeling a struggling student “lazy” can damage their confidence.

One of Russell’s central ideas is to begin with a child’s strongest interest or “specialty.” A student may resist generic assignments but become engaged when reading about superheroes, history, science, technology, movies, sports, Disney, or another subject they love. Russell explains how parents can combine printed books with audiobooks and use interest-based learning to strengthen reading and writing.

    In this conversation, you’ll learn:

    • Why dyslexia does not mean low intelligence
    • How dyslexic children may process information differently
    • Why a child’s interests can increase motivation
    • Why early screening and intervention are important
    • How parents and teachers can rebuild confidence
    • What families should consider when evaluating tutors and programs
    • How students can turn fast-moving ideas into organized writing
    • How schools can better support different learning styles
    • When AI can support learning
    • What to do when you suspect a learning disability

Russell also discusses strengths dyslexic thinkers may possess in creativity, pattern recognition, big-picture thinking, entrepreneurship, research, and problem-solving.

This episode is for parents, teachers, homeschool families, tutors, administrators, special-education professionals, and anyone supporting a child with dyslexia, ADHD, reading difficulties, writing challenges, or other learning differences.

  • Using Art to Build Bridges Between Different Political Beliefs

Can art help us communicate across differences, express what we truly feel, and form deeper connections?

In this thought-provoking episode of Inspire & Impact, host Daniel Rosenstein speaks with conceptual artist, author, and educator David Deighton, creator of Triptych Dialogue—an experimental art project that transforms conversations with strangers into meaningful works of art.

David spent 17 years owning and directing a successful art gallery. Although the gallery was financially successful, he wanted to create art with a deeper personal and social impact.

Instead of working only with paint, sculpture, ceramics, or canvas, David uses conversation as an artistic medium. He approaches strangers, asks open-ended questions, and gives them the freedom to express their beliefs and experiences without interruption, judgment, debate, or pressure to agree.

After hundreds of conversations with people from different cultures, backgrounds, and belief systems, David discovered that most people are willing to discuss difficult subjects when they know they will be heard. His work demonstrates that meaningful communication does not require complete agreement. We can hold different beliefs while still treating one another with curiosity, dignity, and respect.

David also explains the story behind the name Triptych Dialogue. The inspiration came from viewing a centuries-old three-panel artwork with parts of its imagery missing. Instead of seeing the empty space as a flaw, David became interested in what the viewer might discover within the unknown. He connects this idea to communication, where part of every person’s story remains unseen, unheard, or unexplored.

The conversation also examines the importance of silence. Many of us become uncomfortable when someone pauses, so we rush to fill the space or answer for them.

David also shares an unusual technique for managing emotional triggers. When someone says something that creates a strong reaction, he imagines what the person’s words might taste or smell like. This abstract exercise interrupts his automatic response and helps him return his attention to the speaker.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • How conversation can become conceptual art
    • Why David moved beyond the traditional gallery environment
    • What hundreds of conversations taught him about human connection
    • How to communicate with people whose beliefs differ from ours
    • Why curiosity can be more constructive than judgment
    • How active listening can transform difficult conversations
    • Why silence is essential to meaningful communication
    • How to recognize and manage emotional triggers
    • Why people open up when they feel genuinely heard
    • How art creates space for honest personal expression
    • Why face-to-face interaction matters in a digital world
    • How creativity can build bridges between people

David’s work is not about persuading people to abandon their beliefs or forcing everyone to agree. It is about creating space for honest expression and recognizing the human being behind a different point of view. A conversation may not end in agreement, but it can still create understanding, respect, self-awareness, and connection.

Whether you are an artist, educator, leader, parent, coach, communicator, or someone who wants to improve your relationships, this episode offers a powerful invitation: remain curious, ask meaningful questions, respect moments of silence, and listen without immediately judging.

  • From Burnout to Joy: Amy Dickens on Play, Healing, and Reconnecting to Life

What if joy is not a luxury, but a missing piece of healing?

In this heartfelt episode of Inspire and Impact, host Daniel Rosenstein interviews Amy Dickens, author, speaker, event leader, and creator of Joyfully You, for a powerful conversation about burnout, social anxiety, depression, healing, play, and the life-changing power of joy.

Amy shares her story of growing up with the belief that adulthood had to be serious, productive, and heavy. She talks about how being an achiever, people pleaser, and constant hard worker shaped her identity for years, but also left her disconnected from herself. Beneath the striving was a deeper belief that her worth was tied to what she did rather than who she was.

In this episode, Amy opens up about the long journey that led her back to herself. She explains that there was not one magical turning point, but a series of breaking points where the pain of staying the same became greater than the fear of change. Eventually, she began taking courageous steps toward a more joyful life, including making bold choices, listening to her inner voice, and following what made her feel alive.

Dana and Amy explore why so many adults lose touch with joy and play, and why Amy believes that fun is not childish or frivolous. Instead, she sees joy as essential for emotional wellbeing, nervous system regulation, creativity, resilience, connection, and authentic living. She explains how being stuck in stress, fear, freeze, or overwork can shut down creativity and make life feel flat, and how simple shifts in movement, laughter, play, and human connection can begin opening that energy back up.

Amy also shares practical ways people can begin reconnecting with joy when they feel overwhelmed, numb, anxious, or creatively blocked. She talks about the importance of changing your physiology, moving your body, getting outside, exploring different forms of creativity, building supportive relationships, and allowing joy to become part of your daily life instead of something you keep postponing for the future.

This conversation also dives into the healing role of laughter, the science of play, and the impact that joyful states can have on our thinking, choices, and relationships. Amy explains that when people begin allowing more joy into their lives, they often become more expressive, more creative, more connected, and more open to possibility. She also shares her belief that society loses something important when adults stop playing, because joy and play are deeply connected to empathy, connection, learning, and creative problem solving.

Amy discusses the inspiration behind her book, 101 Ways to Spread Joy, which was born out of one of the darkest seasons of her life. She shares how a personal challenge to spread joy each morning helped pull her out of a painful period and sparked a new mission to create positive ripple effects in the lives of others. She offers examples of small but meaningful ways people can spread joy, from appreciation messages to handwritten notes left for strangers, reminding us that simple acts can have a powerful impact.

The episode also highlights Amy’s upcoming Joy Camp, a substance-free summer camp for adults in North Carolina designed to help people reconnect with play, laughter, nature, community, and aliveness in a deeper way.

If you have been feeling disconnected from yourself, buried in stress, stuck in survival mode, or like your spark has dimmed, this episode is a reminder that joy is still available to you. Amy’s message is both compassionate and empowering: it can get better, your joy matters, and the life you want will not appear by accident. You get to create it.
