Paul Samuel Dolman, who spent the summer of 2009 on Martha's Vineyard bumming rides, writes about his experiences in Hitchhiking with Larry David (Gotham). 

Paul who is 52 has been hitchhiking most of his life.

Here's how he describes his motivationI  I want this to lift people up and open their hearts. Stick out their thumbs, literally and metaphorically. Smile at strangers. Go on a trip they've always dreamed about. Believe in love, in magic. Why I'm here matters more if I help people get where they need to go.

One day he is picked by Larry David. Paul couldn't believe it for a second. This is how he describes that moment. I thought "That's Larry David!" So I get in the car and he asks me if I'm a serial killer. I told him that even if I was, I was on vacation. He liked that. He has such a wonderful sense of humor.

Paul descrtibes his life of people.  I'm one of those cliché people where they say, "He never met a stranger he didn't like." But, I don't even like the word "stranger." We're all human beings, we're a family. I love people and I love people's stories. It makes me sad that we've been conditioned to be scared of each other.
