HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS EPISODE:

Busy Busting Survey: https://www.peggysullivanspeaker.com/busy-barometer

TedX Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo1Bmz8q-BM

  • 83% of workers spend their time in meetings, but 1/3 of them are unproductive. We are spending on average 5 hours of unproductive time.
  • Identify and Eliminate the busy traps!
  • It is very hard to step out of habits.
  • It can be small, subtle things that are going to be able to help us reduce our busyness.
  • Flywheel effect - when we do less, we can achieve more. Because we are more intentional, more focused and really working on one thing at a time.
  • Addiction is habitual - we get a hit of dopamine when we get something done. Busyness is so addictive because we are forever chasing the dopamine high.
  • Happiness is not a soft skill, it is a super emotion! When we’re happy we have more mental and physical energy, we are more charismatic, we fight off disease. We as Americans put it in a category, but it is a super power.
  • The small micro-moments, the things that are doable make a difference.
  • Step 2 - Mojo making - creating intentional happiness rituals
  • 3-minute happy moments - Cubicle dance parties, told jokes, watched funny videos, sang songs - after 6 short weeks, employees improved.
  • Having happiness in the workplace is an accelerator!
  • Step 3 - Values management as a replacement for time management (4 Core values)
  • What core values equate to the feeling of getting something meaningful done?
  • Self care
  • Growth - learning something new on regular basis (A day without learning something new is a lost opportunity. When we learn we learn how to flex our resilience muscle.)
  • Human connection - understanding the people you work with, how can you support them
  • Authenticity - remembering not everyone is like me, it’s ok to be open minded, empathetic
  • 94% of us don’t have time for what’s important, like time management .
  • Maybe we say yes too much, being intentional means saying, that would be nice, but it’s not the right thing to do right now.
  • Is it the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason?
  • When we lead with intention, it means making choices.
  • Every single person has strength and weaknesses, everyone wants to do a good job. We just need to set them up to be successful. It’s about all of us living a life that is meaningful and purposeful. Be willing to help.
  • Our society thinks more is more, but we don’t realize less is more and we can achieve more by doing less.
  • Try it!! If you don’t feel your performance is rising, your focus, your happiness, then don’t do it. But the research shows most people get 5 - 7 hours back in their week!
  • This is your life and you can shape it into something that you really want it to be! We are not victims... we are what we choose to become. We are the decisions we make. And we can make better decisions every day!
