Morale Mindset

Interpreting Social Pecking Order via Proximity - Season 1: How to Gauge Morale? (1.7)

Listen Later

Influence within a groups covers everything from who makes the final decision on where to meet for dinner to who will show up, and bring others, to support our personal endeavors.

If ten friends are all very close to one another, that does not mean they are equally close with each member. An unspoken pecking order does exist and we can interpret social pecking order by leveraging multiple cues, but today, we will focus on proximity. In our earlier episodes, we discussed free time and attention as two leading tells for a one-on-one relationship. Although getting free time and attention are very reliable, it is difficult to scale, in that within a group of 10, there are 45 one-on-one relationships. This is a lot to keep track of, so to extend into group dynamics, we will use a rougher metric: physical proximity

About

Morale is the drive, the spirit that other individuals have to support our goals. With high morale, all objectives requiring multiple individuals will become streamlined. With low morale, these same objectives will continue to struggle obstacle after obstacle. Having a Morale Mindset means placing morale as a key factor in our decision making so that we can optimize for stronger results through improving individual performance. In the podcast, "Morale Mindset", we discuss ways to elevate morale in the people around us, through actual stories and tactical solutions.
