Interstellar Love Song

Listen Later

A love separated by lightyears, a goodbye that echoes through the void.
At its core, the song is a metaphor for a breakup. It’s the story of an alien who travels across the stars, only to fall in love with a human on our "planet so blue." But his mission ends, and his crew, seeing our world as "filled with pain and sorrow," decides to leave and never return. This song is his bittersweet goodbye. He tries to console his human love, promising that even when he's lightyears away, he’ll still feel her presence across time and space.
The Sound of a Distant Galaxy.
I wanted the music to feel as blended as the story. Part human, part alien. The song is built on the warm, organic feel of piano, acoustic guitar, and layered vocal harmonies, but driving the whole track is a groovy, dynamic electric guitar riff that gives the song a real bounce, pulling the bass and drums along with it. Combined with some subtle, sci-fi synth sounds, it creates a sound that’s hard to categorize but I think you can sense it's "space-rock" influence in its DNA.
A Decade in the Making (And a Song That Started It All).
This song is incredibly special to me, and I’m so excited to finally release it. The truth is, I wrote the very first draft of it back in 2012. It’s been living with me for over a decade, and it’s the song that truly "started it all" for my go-to writing style. That first idea of using space and science analogies to talk about human experiences resonated deeply with me, and this inspired me to write many of my other songs like Eternity, Chemistry, and Lost in Space. Interstellar Love Song is the one that kicked it all off.
Made By Humans.
One of the reasons I love this recording is because it’s a snapshot of friendship and family. While I played most of the instruments and handled the mix/master, I couldn't have done it without these amazing people:
My Dad: He co-wrote the song with me, contributing the perfect opening and closing lines: "I've traveled the stars, only to find you..." That's his voice you hear singing the harmonies with me.
Simone: You'll hear these haunting, beautiful, reverb-drenched "Ah's" in the background. That's the incredibly talented Simone. It’s a small part, but it’s one of my absolute favorite moments on the record.
Zach: The funky, rhythmic bassline holding down the groove? That’s Zach. He was the perfect person to bring this bass line to life.
Sean: Listen closely for a subtle, processed guitar line that sounds like an "alien signal." That's Sean using guitar harmonics and dissonant notes to create something beautifully chaotic.
It’s a track full of human performances and ideas, which is something I'm very proud of. Thank you for reading the story. I hope it makes listening to "Interstellar Love Song" an even richer experience.
