Interstitial Lung Disease in Scleroderma: Early Recognition and Emerging Therapeutic Options

One of the most debilitating complications of Systemic Sclerosis (SS) is interstitial lung disease (ILD), which is the leading cause of death in patient with SS. Early detection and classification based on declining lung function and determination of the extent and type of lung involvement based on high-resolution computer tomography (HRCT) is critical for diagnosis and management. Once SS-ILD is diagnosed, there are no clear guidelines for when to initiate treatment, no recommendations for monitoring treatment. Another major barrier to effective management of the disease, there are serious limitations to current therapies. This activity will clarify the most current evidence to help clinicians manage their patients with SS-ILD, and review emerging options that may change the standard of care of these patients and enhance outcomes.
