It was Darren Campbell’s mother who first spotted his talent when she saw him run in his first school sports day – ‘she knew that day that I had talent, and so from that day on it was evident to her that I was going to be an athlete. It first clicked for me when I was twelve years old, watching the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and seeing Carl Lewis win four Olympic Gold medals.’ Young Darren started practising his autograph and telling everyone that he would be going to the Olympic Games to compete. Now, with more than 20 medals to his name, including Olympic Gold and Silver, Commonwealth Bronze and World Championship Bronze, Darren works to help people realise that motivation and inspiration can help you achieve your dreams, even when the odds are stacked against you.
