Together they discuss a plenary presentation that was given at ASCO 2023 on rectal cancer titled, the PROSPECT (Preoperative Radiation or Selective Preoperative Radiation and Evaluation before Chemotherapy and TME) trial.

The PROSPECT trial attempts to challenge the current treatment paradigm by individualizing treatment through the use of radiotherapy selectively rather than reflexively. This is a randomized phase III trial of neoadjuvant chemoradiation versus neoadjuvant FOLFOX chemotherapy with selective use of chemoradiation, followed by total mesorectal excision (TME) for the treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC).
