The Talking Point is coming to you live from the live from Iziko Museum, In Cape Town, where the Department of Science and Innovation is showcasing a number of impressive projects and initiatives, giving a clear and practical perspective on how science, technology and innovation play a role in our society. Now the Hermanus Magnetic Observatory forms part of the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), which has been developing capabilities in space weather monitoring at SANSA's Hermanus facility, providing space weather data for research purposes. This facility of SANSA which is an entity of the Department of Science and Technology was recently designated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as one of two regional centres around the world that will monitor space weather for the global aviation sector, providing crucial safety-related services such as solar storm forecasts and warnings.
