"To buy the Intimacy Anorexia® Steps Guide: https://www.drdougweiss.com/product/intimacy-anorexia-steps-guide/
Intimacy anorexia is the active withholding emotionally, spiritually, and sexually from your significant other, making them feel alone and disconnected. The pain and even trauma they experience from this are real due to you withholding your heart from them. However,
the 12 Steps of the recovery process has helped many recover over the years, and it can help you as well. Dr. Doug Weiss, licensed psychologist and national author, walks you through Step Four in this video.
Step Four is about having made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. Here, you will begin to see patterns and why you are dealing with intimacy anorexia in your life. You are not evaluating others in this process but only yourself. To fearlessly and honestly discover your own heart, motives, and story in the life you have. With your search results, you will then sort them into three different columns.
The first column, is where you put the good you did in your life, for yourself and for others.
The second column of the inventory consists of bad decisions you made, both small and great. Things that had negative consequences, hurting you and those around you. It's important to be honest and own the bad choices you made. However, even if did them, it doesn't mean that you're bad.
With the last column, it's the ugly stuff that happened to you that you had no control over or responsibility for. Things that include abuse, a bad childhood or family growing up, events where others have hurt you, etc. These things may have impacted the decisions you make.
It's important that you don't do this process by yourself. Intimacy Anorexics need to connect and attach to others. Have support and be known.
Also, don't dwell on this step for too long. You don't want to continuously swim in the bad and ugly soup. It can be hard to see your weaknesses and flaws and you may believe that you are bad and unloved person. You are loved but you have to choose to go through this process fearlessly and honestly, to accept the flaws you have. Do the work and move onto Step Five as soon as you can.
