Andrew Bashaw, Executive Director of the Buckeye Trail Association, gives an overview of the Buckeye Trail. He shares info to consider as you get out for a day hike, section hike or thru hike. We chat about trail towns, trail maintenance and creating a community around the trail that encompasses all generations.
The Buckeye Trail is a 1,444-mile hiking trail and long-distance trail that loops around the state of Ohio. There are 26 sections that make up the trail. "First envisioned in the late 1950's as a trail from the Ohio River to Lake Erie, the Buckeye Trail evolved into a large loop, branching both north and east from Cincinnati. The separate legs rejoin in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Cleveland, and complete the trip to the lake. Because it is a loop, it is also in essence, endless. You may start a hike at any point and hike as long as you want without ever reaching an end!" (buckeyetrail.org)
