Introduction to Audacious Generosity with Drew Appelbaum
Pastor Kevin was born in Western North Carolina and grew up in a Christian family with his parents divorcing when he was 12 years old. He came to know Christ at the age of 10 and that knowledge became his saving refuge over a lot of turbulent times in his childhood. He got the call of God when he was 17, during which he has never traveled outside of North and South Carolina, not even having a passport back then but now, here he is, committing his life to full-time ministry. He has been married for 33 years and they have a son and two daughters. This year, they have been blessed with their first granddaughter. He has been to India 51 times and has traveled to around 27 different countries. For him, God has used India as a pivotal moment in his life and He has used India to change Pastor Kevin’s life. In India, he saw the value of God’s presence in a way that he had not seen in the US and it was on the flight back to the US when he had determined that he was going to spend the rest of his life pursuing God’s presence. He came back with their 11 year old son and some friends from their church and, now, he has taken a thousand people with him on short-term mission trips to India.
The Audacious Generosity Podcast was created as a result of Pastor Kevin writing his new book, Audacious Generosity, out on November 17, 2020 worldwide via Amazon in both book (paperback and hardback) and audio book format. Pastor Kevin considered the writing of the book as an assignment from God. He came back from India on January 8, 2020 and went into a workshop with a communication coach from January 27 to 28, right after their granddaughter was born. With an outline of the book, he began to write and, as all international travel has been suspended due to pandemic, he was able to focus on this book with an intensity he had not had for the last 8 years, finishing it by May when he would have normally been in India during this time.
He felt that God had been preparing him for 2 decades for the things he had written in the book. Audacious Generosity is about the value of generosity and how it really does open doors for ministry and the purposes of God and our lives. The context of this book may be Christian but this book is for everyone, not just for a particular religion for there is a lot of kindness that can be seen no matter what religion one may have. Anyone looking for meaning and satisfaction in life will resonate with the message of Audacious Generosity.
Audacious is a willingness to take risk and generosity is an action of being kind and plentiful. When combined, it means being generous on a level of willingness to take risk. He considered writing and publishing this book as a gift from God and a high honor. The best show of this is with God’s mission. God’s mission has always been Jesus and his strategy has always been Audacious Generosity as could clearly be seen in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son”. He gave and gifted His Son to everyone, whether they accept or reject the gift. That is what audacious generosity is and who Pastor Kevin follows as a Christian.
The problem with giving is that we start to feel like we’re being asked to give up our resources and we feel the pressure to give. It starts to scare us and we start to avoid giving all together. That is why, one of the primary things Pastor Kevin clarifies in the book, is that God is the giver. That takes the pressure away from us when we understand giving doesn’t depend upon what’s in our hands or what’s in our bank account but it depends upon Him. We give what He puts in our hands, not what we can produce.

For ten years, Kevin has been the Founder/Executive Director of Global Hope India a mission organization to Indian Nationals. He’s traveled to India fifty times hosting a thousand people on mission trips. Kevin and his wife, Shelly, have three adult children and one grandchild. They live in Cary, North Carolina.
