Before turning to Joel, consider the four key promises of the Old Testament that undergird the message of the Minor Prophets. It is the hope of these promises that hangs in the balance in the message of the prophets. How can God be true to His word of judgment against sin and yet fulfill the promises He’s made to His people? Through the language of the Day of the Lord, Joel calls Judah to repent of her spiritual apathy and walk in faithfulness to God’s covenant.
