Introductions

Hawai'i is a place known the world over, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone in this era of globalisation who hasn't at least heard the name. You'd be equally hard pressed to find anyone outside Hawai'i and the world of academia particularly knowledgeable of it's history. Apart from being important for pushing back against dominant colonial narratives and reinvigorating the image of Hawai'i as something far greater than a mere tourist destination, the history of the Aina of Hawai'i is a fascinating story of human resilience, ingenuity and artistry.
