The NDP government in Alberta brought in Bill 6, which was the Farm Worker’s Enhancement and Protection Act. It basically set upon a whole bunch of rule changes within the Province of Alberta without doing hardly any consultation.”
“I was taking a look at a bunch of the detail of what it looked like they were going to do in the legislation, I said, “Oh my goodness.” Then once the first piece of legislation was passed, the first reading of the Bill, and we got to see what’s actually going to be in there, I was just mortified. So we got a few farmers together and we established Alberta Farm Voice and the whole idea of it was to provide … It was a whole bunch of inaccurate information. People were out there saying, “Well, kids aren’t going to be allowed to be in 4H anymore,” and, “It was going to be this and it was going to be that.”
