Over the last few passages, Jesus has gone through multiple conversations about his authority with the most powerful and influential people in the region; the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the community elders. The leaders are threatened because they were the power, authority, and influence in their communities, but now Jesus has come around and he’s really messing it up on them.
