In 2003, while snowboarding in the French Alps, I had an accident that seemed minor at first but led to a shocking diagnosis. After struggling with balance and experiencing a knee injury, I underwent tests back home that initially suggested ligament damage. However, persistent symptoms prompted further investigation, revealing a much graver reality. A young nurse’s intuition led to an X-ray, and eventually, I was referred to a neurosurgeon, Professor King, who diagnosed me with ataxia caused by a brain tumor. Despite the devastating news, I remained surprisingly calm and optimistic, supported by my girlfriend, Mel. Determined not to let this diagnosis define my remaining time before surgery, I embarked on memorable trips to Paris with Mel and Brazil with friends, fully embracing each moment. These experiences, filled with love and adventure, became treasures, especially as I faced the uncertainty of my future post-operation.
