👎 iPhone 17e Review: A Costly Disappointment from Apple

Listen Later

The iPhone 17e is positioned as the successor to the 16e, continuing the legacy of a smartphone line that debuted a decade ago. Priced at 3000 PLN, it is marketed as a budget-friendly option, though its high price point relative to its features suggests it targets a more affluent segment of the market. The device introduces several key hardware updates over the previous generation. Base storage has been doubled from 128GB to 256GB, and the internal processor has been upgraded to the A19 chip. While the A19 provides top-tier performance that rivals or exceeds many modern competitors, the perceived difference in speed during standard tasks compared to the older A18 is negligible. A major functional improvement is the addition of 15W MagSafe and Qi2 magnetic charging, which was a highly requested feature absent in previous iterations. Additionally, a new pink color option has been added to the existing black and white lineup.Despite these changes, many core components remain identical to the previous year's model. The battery capacity, camera hardware, speakers, and overall construction have not been updated. The phone features a premium build quality utilizing aluminum and matte glass, but the front design remains dated. It retains thick screen bezels and a notch instead of moving to the modern Dynamic Island interface. The display technology is a significant point of criticism. Although it uses an OLED panel, it is restricted to a 60Hz refresh rate, meaning it lacks ProMotion and Always-on Display capabilities—features often expected at this price point in 2026. Furthermore, the screen's brightness is considered average when compared to other devices in the same price bracket. The photography system is limited to a single lens. While software enhancements allow this single camera to perform well, it lacks the versatility of an ultra-wide lens. It also misses out on advanced video features such as Action Mode and Cinematic Mode.Given the 3000 PLN price tag, the device faces difficult competition. For the same or lower cost, users can often find the base iPhone 16 or even the iPhone 15 Pro in excellent condition, both of which offer superior displays and camera systems. It also competes directly with flagship Android alternatives like the Samsung Galaxy S25 and the Google Pixel 10. The iPhone 17e is generally viewed as an overpriced option unless the price falls closer to 2000 PLN or for those who are strictly committed to the ecosystem and a specific device size.
