An American Apache helicopter was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz.

And the President of the United States announced that a deal with Iran could be signed within days.

That's not so much a contradiction, as it is modern warfare.

One side is negotiating. The other side is shooting. Sometimes they're the same side.
